The biggest project of my life: Rhythms of Viet Nam
Exploring Vietnam Through My Lens: A Journey in Photos
After spending a month traveling through Vietnam, I’m excited to finally share something special: my very first photo book, which is available for pre-order on my website until October 1st. This project is the result of a long, immersive experience capturing the essence of the country through my lens. It’s been an incredible journey, and now I want to bring you along for the ride.
A Month of Adventure in Vietnam
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just experienced one of the most incredible adventures in Vietnam. Imagine waking up to the beauty of Vietnamese markets on the water, capturing the daily lives of people as they go about their routines—it’s the kind of scene photographers dream of. Throughout this journey, I’ve taken some of the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever captured, and I can’t wait for you to see them.
The trip to Vietnam was not just for photos, though. It also coincided with a significant moment in my life: transitioning to a new visa in Korea, which allows me to stay here longer and build something more permanent. However, while my feet are in Korea, my heart and camera were busy in Vietnam, documenting everything for this project.
A perfect moment for me to be focus on my work without any distraction leading to a lot of pictures, really a lot!
The Birth of My First Photo Book
After more than ten years of doing photography, I finally took the leap and created something that feels like a real part of me—a photo book that showcases Vietnam through my eyes. I took my trusty Hasselblad (even though I bought it in Japan) and traveled through various places in Vietnam, soaking up the atmosphere of bustling markets, colorful streets, and vibrant communities. This project represents the culmination of my journey as a photographer so far, and I’m proud to share it with you.
Wandering Through Vietnam’s Hidden Corners
As I explored different regions of Vietnam, I made it a point to wander off the beaten path, seeking out the authentic neighborhoods that truly reflect the country’s soul. From lively local markets to quieter residential areas, I focused on finding places filled with life, texture, and stories. These are the moments that I love to capture—scenes of everyday life, far from the tourist spots, where the true essence of Vietnam can be seen and felt.
This approach allowed me to experience Vietnam in a way that felt real and immersive, meeting welcoming locals and discovering places rich with character. Whether it was children playing in the streets, quiet moments in small temples, or bustling street corners, every scene offered something unique and worthy of being captured.
The Challenges of Creating a Photo Book
Making a photo book is no easy task. It’s not just about selecting the best photos. You need to curate a story, a theme, something that ties everything together. For me, Vietnam is more than just a series of pretty pictures. It’s about showing life as it is, with all its textures, colors, and imperfections. That’s why the cover of my book features a Vietnamese woman resting at home—a snapshot of life that feels intimate yet respectful.
This book reflects a lot of thought and care. Every photo, every page layout has been carefully considered. It was a long and challenging process, and I’m grateful for the experience. I hope this book offers you a glimpse into a more authentic Vietnam, beyond the typical tourist perspectives.
